A Show In The City

Hello! I’ve decided to get my blog back on! I haven’t really been in the swing of it lately as I feel as though I’m still anxiously waiting for everything around me to happen. Its going to be an explosion of excitement when it all does I can tell you that. As for what I’m waiting for: my exam results from June, (not so exciting actually) news from our breeder on a puppy update and my new car. It turns out that we didn’t have to wait as long as I imagined for Polly to come into season as she started her cycle on Monday. No walks or trips out for a while! Boo!

Well speaking of trips out, Tuesday was a welcome distraction from my state of anticipation as we (mum, and her parents) took a visit to London to watch a show. When it comes to fashionable and contemporary locations London is top of the list at the moment. Perhaps down to its unbeatable urban majesty. But more likely due to that little event they’re calling the Olympics?

DSCN6548

Olympics aside, as usual being in London is like being thrown into a gigantic maze of tall buildings, big red buses and crowds of people. Every corner you turn seems to lead you deeper into the heart of the city.

DSCN6555

Covent Garden remains my favourite spot to visit. I like what it represents with quirky market stalls next to designer boutiques – a reflection of London’s diverse scale. Its baffling to think that you can go from posh to poverty in the blink of an eye, but I suppose that’s true for all major cities though.

DSCN6558

We had a few hours to kill before the show so enough time to soak up some festive Olympic vibes. Everywhere looked very jolly with London 2012 banners decorating all the hotspots, but unfortunately it was far too hot to explore as much as I’d have liked to.

DSCN6564

Instead we stayed cool and hydrated under some shade, eating delicious Thornton’s ice cream, honeycomb caramel yum yum. When in London a union jack napkin is mandatory obviously!

Gradually the streets filled up with increased shadows of the evening which meant that it was time to make our way to the theatre for the 7pm performance of War Horse.

DSCN6579

When I saw trailers for the movie it was one of those things that I liked the look of but never got round to watching  – but I was so glad I didn’t see the film as I got to enjoy the experience of watching it first time on the stage. We were seated high up in the front row at the side of the large theatre with a good view of all the action. I thought that the show was brilliantly clever and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I must say that I was expecting it to be really emotional but I thought it was actually quite a feel good show. There was drama, action, humour, heartache and lots of animals all wrapped up into one enjoyable performance.

However much I enjoy trips into the city, I always feel a sense of relief when I’m back to the slow pace of my suburban life. London can be very overwhelming.

DSCN6575

On saying that though, I hope that my exciting plans spring to life soon so that I can drive some of my hyped up energy somewhere productive. Drive being the key word especially once I get my Mini Cooper Winking smile

Have a fabulous weekend wherever you are, whatever you’re doing! x

The Waiting Game

Finally, Britain had a weekend that resembled summer! Blue skies, birds singing and trees gently waving in a mild breeze. And doesn’t the sunshine get people out? Generally there were just lots of people scattered around all over the place over the last two days. Obviously everyone is making the most of the rare nice weather while they can. We spent a good deal of yesterday at the allotment and Polly pug joined us for the first time. We tied her to the bench with plenty of shade and she really enjoyed herself. I weeded and watered for a while and although I’m very happy we’ve finally got some better weather yesterday wasn’t really ideal gardening conditions as it was just so hot.

DSCN6515

Polly definitely had the best idea: snoozing away the day in the sun!

DSCN6519

While removing the many hundreds of unwanted weeds on our plot yesterday I came to the conclusion that July is going to be the month of waiting around for us. Its quite an exciting but at the same time frustrating time. Its exciting because lots is on the horizon however I don’t know how much longer I can wait for it all.

DSCN6535

It is most certainly all about to kick off very soon! Firstly, our breeder has been in touch to say that she is still waiting for puppies to be born but hopes for them to arrive within this week. Another sort of milestone event is that we think Polly is about to come into season at any minute now – she is about the right age and she has a lot of signs indicating that she is going into heat. I have no idea what to expect from that!

DSCN6536

I’m also waiting for some documents to come through from the DVLA to sort my car/number plates out and these could take another few weeks so I can’t have my new car until this has been sorted out. And one more thing that I’m still waiting for is my examination results form way back in June.

I’m crossing my fingers for lots of ups towards the end of July!

Paw’s The Word

Good morning and a very happy Saturday to you! How was your week? Mine was a pretty uneventful one, filled with lots of work and plenty of frequent raindrops. All I can say is thank goodness its the weekend now as I have some fun plans including a curry night for my granddad’s birthday tonight and a trip to London. However, today’s post is dedicated to the lovely people over at Lucky Paws Boutique and they are Sammy and Missy. If you haven’t already, make sure to Tweet them a hello, you can find them as @LuckyPaws or @MissyMoo.

Polly and I first bumped into Sam and Missy at our first dog show a few weeks ago, luckily I took one of their lovely cards and got in touch with them again over the internet. Everything the boutique sells is so cute, but I began my first order with just two bits, something for both Polly and her future sister! Open-mouthed smile I got Polly a pink harness and later on bought a jumper from their eBay Store for our future little puppy.

DSCN6479

Both items arrived in the post very quickly on Thursday, and Polly and I would like to say a big, big thank you to Lucky Paws, firstly for the beautiful items and secondly for being such a pleasure to buy from. Sam was always keeping me updated on the status of my order, and I think that its nice to have a little bit of knowledge of how your purchases are coming along. Plus its especially nice to feel like someone actually cares about what they are sending you for a change. Smile

Here are some pictures of Polly being a pug-poser in her lovely new harness:

A Combination Not To Be Mixed

Oh this is one of the parts I have most been looking forward to about having an allotment. Having, flowers and fruit and in other words something to show for all of the work that has been put in. I cannot pretend to take credit for all of this because a lot of it is from my Grandparent’s plot, but I see it as a good sign that we’ve got plenty more of this to come in our direction.

These are some of our very own:

DSCN6459

A delightful combination of rhubarb, onions, strawberries and courgettes from the plot. Not to be put in a dish together though! But still just because these fruit and veg don’t go together, how exciting is this?

DSCN6455

It all looks so fresh too.

DSCN6458

I consider us so lucky to have rhubarb as it costs a ridiculous amount to buy from the supermarkets these days. Is delicious warmed up with some vanilla ice cream! Yum.

DSCN6457

My personal favourites are still the berries’ at the moment: strawberries and raspberries. Mmmm delicious and so summery (even if the weather is not)

DSCN6460

What do you find most satisfying about gardening or owning a plot?

The Great British Summer

What a summer this is turning out to be in regards of the weather. It saddens me that I have been turning to my raincoat, umbrella and chunky waterproof boots in mid-July.  Most of my summer dresses haven’t even left the wardrobe this year yet! Its depressing because summer is the time when everyone is out and about here and there but these heavy downpours prevent you from doing that quite so freely (unless you’re okay with getting drenched to the bone!) However that wasn’t the spirit of a lot of people yesterday.

DSCN6440

Mum and I made a brief appearance at Beth’s Dog show and I was pleased to see plenty of people had made an effort to give their support despite the awful weather! There were lots of fun stalls that we browsed and loads of dogs were entering the show. Because of the weather we only stayed for a short while and so I didn’t enter Polly in any of the classes, although had the weather been nicer I would have liked to. I did end up buying Polly a few treats including some toys, a new jumper and harness.

DSCN6441

I seriously hope that a proper summer is just around the corner!

Pig-less

We had some sad news this morning when my dad went downstairs to make a cup of tea and discovered that my sweet little guinea pig Calypso had passed away in the night. We think that she has been poorly for the last week or so since she gradually stopped eating. She was five years old which is a fair age for a piggy considering she has been alone for a whole year with her sister’s death last June. We worried she would pine terribly for Caramel but she managed to keep going for another thirteen months without her sister in the cadge with her.

june 2008 022

Thankfully she didn’t appear to be in any pain towards the end, I think that she had just become very old and slow in herself all of a sudden, and thus deteriorated before our eyes this last week. We were going to take her to the vet but we thought that the trauma of it would have been a bit cruel on her fragile little body and we let time do its thing. Nature took its course, and Lulu went peacefully in her sleep.

DSC03710

Its so very sad when an animal passes away because they really do make an imprint on your heart. And actually, even the smallest of animals have the ability to touch our lives in such a big way. I have so many sweet memories of my guinea pigs together, they are lovely docile creatures and made beautiful pets in our home for the past five years. The absence of their cadge in the house is very odd at the moment Sad smile

I find comfort in hoping that somewhere my two piggies are skipping around freely in the grass together Red heart

RIP little one.

A Glimpse Of The 2012 Olympics

Hello how we doing on this hot Thursday afternoon? So yesterday I went to Greenwich for my Mum’s birthday and we had a really lovely, relaxing time. I actually took a bit of a break from my camera yesterday, sometimes I need a rest from my toy as its become such an everyday item for me lately. However when I saw the transformation of the city’s lovely old park I had to snap a few, quick shots of my only ‘in person’ glimpse of the 2012 Olympics. I thought I could just share them with you on my blog.
