A Jammy Morsel

Welcome to my jam cupboard.

What do I fancy today?

Hmmmm. Too many options. Who me?

I needed something to cure my Monday morning blues for breakfast this morning. Generally Monday started off on a pleasant note: I was out of bed by half 7 this morning and down to the pool less than an hour later with my Mum. We had a glorious swim with the pool all to ourselves the entire time. It was blissful.

But, I’m going to visit my Granddad in hospital later on so I’ve got a bit on my mind. I know that my Dad has been quite upset the last couple of times he has seen him. So I’m feeling a bit apprehensive about going. I don’t want to go, but I know how much I’ll regret it if I don’t go.

I don’t know what I’m going to say to him. I need to keep it together.

So with that, I thought that some blackcurrant jam would help lift my mood slightly.

I came back from swimming and immediately made myself two crumpets with blackcurrant jam, a banana on the side and a coffee to drink.

This breakfast totally hit the spot. The blackcurrant jam tasted bittersweet (like my mood today) and the crumpet was soft and springy.

Now, time to face Monday!

A Pumpkin Maximum

Hello and Happy Halloween! In our household, we have never been big on the Halloween front, usually it just about stretches to a pumpkin for display purposes (if we’re lucky) and not a lot more. However, we’re looking a little more spooky this year with our new glowing pumpkin!

I think that we’re saving all of our festive spirits for the next big event that is just around the corner: Christmas! We definitely get into the swing of things when December hops along – however I’ll save that post for another time.

In terms of celebrating Halloween we’re definitely the reserved type, settling for a nice movie night with a spooky film over partying or Trick or Treating.

Tonight’s agenda: The Corpse Bride!

Do you celebrate Halloween? If so how are you spending it?

What Half Term Looks Like For Me

Its always the same every time there is a half term or holiday. Gone are the days where I used to consider half term an innocent, carefree time to play or relax. For at least the last three years half term boils down to some serious work. My hours at work always increase and my other responsibilities also seem to start piling up.

Of course, this half term has been no different.

It feels as though I’ve hardly had a minute to slow down and catch up on my thoughts this week!

Okay so here’s a little break down of what’s been going on in my life this half term:

– I had to pick up an extra shift at work which pushed my hours up to 29 as apposed to my usual 21 hours. Although I don’t mind, the added hours really take it out of me sometimes. I had to work a late shift Sunday (3-11) and then come straight back in on Monday to work an early (7-3) so I was pooped by the end of that. I suppose sometimes you just have to think of it as money and I cant say no to earning a bit extra with December on the horizon…

– Tuesday was my day off but I felt really irritable and on edge for the majority of it – not how you want to feel: I knew I had an important phone call to make to my uni which I had been putting off for too long. I’ve been going through a very slow and long winded process of a credit transfer. This is to try and get me some recognition for the year I studied and passed at Canterbury. I finally got news that I was exempt from some level 1 modules which was great. But then I had to organise getting a place on level 2 which has already begun. To cut a long and boring story short – I’ve got my request for a level 2 module accepted and I just need to arrange some final details. Hallelujah!

– In between stressing out over making my phone call I tried to have a nice relaxing lunch with the father and boyfriend. They ordered chips and egg  [cheesy chips for dad] while I ordered a prawn sandwich with a side of mini-cheddars. The sandwich was okay: nothing special but I appreciated the outing as it was nice to distract me for an hour or so Smile

– Not a great start to the week in terms of exercise, even though I was really enthusiastic and keen about it: I had an achievable plan ready but then work just sabotaged my motivation. Thinking smile It feels like all my energy gets sucked up into work and I can’t get myself down to the gym after I finish – all I want to do after work is come home and drink tea. Two days off work today and tomorrow have corrected this and put my motivation right back on track now though!

– Other little bits from the week: I decided I want to upgrade to an iPhone! No more Blackberry for me. I got a few more long sleeved winter tops from Primark…we also booked tickets to see Strictly Come Dancing’s Vincent and Flavia at the Marlowe Theatre for my Grandma’s 70th Birthday next year which will be nice.

My half term felt sort of hectic in a boring and unexciting way. And in the mean time, on top of all the other crazy responsibilities in my life, I have not been able to stop thinking about my poor old Granddad. He has been floating at the back of my mind all week long. He is still in hospital and the nurses have said that he is near the end of his life now.

Even though he is an old man I still can’t help getting that empty feeling in the pit of your stomach. He has become a living ghost. The person we knew has gone and won’t ever come back. What is left of our Billy Boy is a frail old man who waits for death. And right now we are waiting with him. It is sad on so many levels.

This post feels like a little bit of a shambles, with my camera charger failing me at the start of the week pictures are quite limited. I feel like I have a lot on my mind. I’m trying to keep things light hearted and positive. I’ll let you know how that goes…. Winking smile

What are your weekend/Halloween plans? Have a good one! x

Things I’m Loving: October

I’ve been looking forward to writing this post all week because October turned out to be a really good month! This is the second post in the new monthly feature (you can see September’s post here.)

Here are a handful of things that stood out to me in particular this month. Continue reading

More Technological Blips

I think the technology Gods are looking down and punishing me recently, as my camera charger broke over the weekend! Only two minutes ago I had my laptop charger give up on me and now my camera charger too! I have to admit that I feel quite bereft being unable to use my camera. Its funny that whenever technological blips occur you really realise how thoroughly we depend on these objects from day to day. Okay, I don’t need my camera but I certainly want it. Continue reading

Slow Start To The Morning

This week has whizzed by, so I was happy when I woke up today and realised that its Friday! I think that I was a little bit too happy about Friday as I’ve been in relax mode ever since. Now is the time to add that its been a highly unproductive relax mode too. I’ve had a very slow start to Friday Thinking smile … Ah well I think that I really needed to catch up on some rest after two busy days at work, followed with swimming and then an evening out last night.

Chilly Versus Chilli

This weekend there has been a whole lot of chilly going around. Its definitely starting to feel like October all of a sudden and I couldn’t be happier about it.

By the time the evenings roll around there is certainly a chill in the air. Even a mild chilli con carne made by Gary’s sister in law couldn’t completely warm me up on Saturday evening!

On Saturday evening, Gary and I went to his brothers Steve’s for chilli and it was the first time Caroline has cooked for us. We usually go out for meals together but as they’re going on holiday next week they wanted to save some money, so instead we settled for chilli night!

Caroline served up a tasty chilli, however I got the mild impression that she wasn’t relaxed under the circumstances. For example, she was being overly critical of her own cooking when there wasn’t anything wrong with it. OK the rice was a little bit soggy but nobody would have noticed if she didn’t point it out. And then with dessert, she was apologising for the brownies being dry. I kind of spent the evening feeling a bit uneasy and on edge, which is unusual because I normally feel so laid back in their company.

Then I also felt a bit uncomfortable when I realised that I had attended over dressed as Caroline was in her comfy lounge clothes without any makeup on, as understandably she hadn’t had much time to get ready. She works and has two young children on her hands etc – I can see that she has her work cut out for her but I couldn’t help feeling a bit out of context. Maybe I should have interpreted it to be a more casual event?

Oh well. Technically  I was only in jeans and a nice top Winking smile

Pre-meal drink at our local with the parents. (Diet cokes all around, apart from a beer for my dad.)

Even despite the circumstances I was happy to spend the evening with my boy Smile

What I’m Wearing.

Cardigan is from Miss Selfridge.

Top is from New Look on my recent shop.

Worn with black Levis.

I’m wearing my Vivienne Westwood Pumps, I love these shoes because they’re glamorous but so comfy to wear.

Nails are Rimmel Pro. Sticking with an autumn themed colour Open-mouthed smile

Jewellery was quite fun again as I wore all my best stuff for the second time this week.

White Fossil watch.

Pandora bracelet.

Westwood heart earrings.

And also my 18th birthday ring.

So then the second lot of chilly I encountered over the weekend was a nice outdoor stroll around the park Sunday. To be completely honest, for a mid-October day it wasn’t even that chilly Winking smile I’m just being a baby. I had a great morning yesterday at the park – so peaceful and relaxing.

I took coffee with me to keep warm, but I burnt my tongue so I was annoyed Sad smile

Most of the family showed up at some point so it was nice to spend the morning together in their company.

My cousin’s baby, Harvey, really liked the park today even though he was poorly with a cold. He was contently singing away in his pram and pointing at all the ducks when we fed them, which was so sweet to watch Open-mouthed smile

I spent the majority of the walk side by side with my old man Dad

While my mum spent the majority of it with her old man Winking smile

Forget what I said about chilly – it was a completely beautiful October day. Smile

Simple family times make me a very happy bunny.

How did you spend the weekend? x
