A year ago today, my aunt’s partner Ian, passed away from a sudden heart attack. His death was a horrible shock to everybody.
Ian’s life was taken early from him, but his pain was quick in comparison to the lifetime of heart ache left behind for those who loved him, particularly his mother, Christine and brother, Andrew.
Although his body no longer remains, there are pieces of his soul living on in the memories of those who knew him. He treated my young cousins like they were his own children and they lovingly gave him the title of ‘Dad.’ I know that he will always be in their hearts because he acted like a true father: bringing them up and caring for them.
Ian, you are in our thoughts, particularly on this significant day that marks the anniversary of your death.
Its amazing how much can change in the space of a year. Its also amazing how incredibly different we all are as individuals. Our values and what we stand for are remarkably different.
Its sad that, in times of death you truly appreciate the beauty of life.
Side note – The picture at the top of the post was taken the day before Ian passed away.
